Thank you to all our sponsors and supporters who helped to make the 4th Annual Soup and Sandwich Dinner an overwhelming success. Together, over $20,000 was raised for our Food Bank and Fellowship Centre.
On Monday May 14, 2012, 180 guests attended the Daily Bread’s 4th annual Soup and Sandwich Dinner. Hosted at the London Club, attendees enjoyed a simple meal, an active silent auction and a thought provoking address by this year’s guest speaker, Glen Pearson. Glen, who is well known in the London for his considerable work pursuing the betterment of life for the disadvantaged, urged Dinner attendees to “Talk their Walk”. “A selfless dedication to meeting the needs of others is a hallmark of many faith based individuals and communities,” said Glen Pearson, “but this work so often goes unnoticed.” “It is important that we inform our leaders about the significant support that is currently being provided by groups like the Daily Bread – Food Bank and Fellowship Centre”.
In 2011, The Daily Bread - Food Bank and Fellowship Centre reached out to the community in these important ways…
Food Bank:
– 9,683 households were given food and crisis situation support
– These households included 7,380 children
– The total number of people given assistance was 19,577
– In December, the Christmas Share Program delivered 268 food and gift hampers
– The total estimated value of all assistance given was $454,033
– The work of the Food Bank is assisted by a team of approx. 40 dedicated volunteers
Fellowship Centre:
– 33,415 lunches were provided to guests of the Centre – an average of approx. 153 lunches per day
– These lunches are provided by a dedicated team of approx. 30 volunteers who make and serve these homemade nutritious meals Monday to Friday
We are thankful for the continued community support of these two vital outreach ministries and we look forward to seeing you at the 5th Annual Soup and Sandwich Dinner currently being planned for the Spring of 2013.
London Community Foundation (LCF):
In response to the urgent needs of our community during trying economic times, LCF has chosen to direct a portion of granting to urgent needs such as programs like the Daily Bread Fellowship Centre. This grant of $12,000 will greatly help us continue to provide meals to the 200+ people coming each day. Thank you to all who support us and who support London Community Foundation.
